Obstetrics

We offer antenatal and postnatal care for pregnant women, consulting or referring patients appropriately for pregnancy related complications or for delivery to hospital based specialists.

It is recommended that women planning a pregnancy should have a pre-pregnancy evaluation so that problems that could affect the outcome of the pregnancy be detected early, and corrected if possible.

Once pregnancy is confirmed there is a schedule of antenatal visits that should be followed, to allow for prenatal blood tests, screening for certain maternal infection, evaluation of the age and growth of the baby by ultrasound, detection, and treatment of pregnancy complications, etc.

Eureka Medical Clinic is equipped with state of the art ultrasound and laboratory facilities (Medicure Lab). Rhogam (anti-Rhesus factor antibody) injections are available to reduce Rhesus factor sensitization in those mothers who have the Rhesus negative blood type.

Gynaecology

We also offer a full range of office based gynecological evaluation, investigations, and treatment.

There services include:

  • Contraception: oral contraceptive, depo-hormone injection, intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD), and arranging for laparoscopic tubal ligation, as appropriate.
  • Cervical cancer screening: annual pap smear (by the modern thin-prep method). Testing for HPV (human papilloma virus), the recognized cause of cervical cancer can be requested. Women with abnormal pap smears can have the cervix further evaluated under the video-microscope by colposcopy.
  • Colposcopy allows abnormal areas of the cervix to be identified and biopsies taken for histological examination by a pathologist. Abnormal cervical areas can be treated by cryotherapy, in the office.
  • Cryotherapy destroys the abnormal cells, by painless freezing. During the healing process the cervix is re-covered by normal cells. As such, cryotherapy may therefore be a cure for some early cervical cancers.
  • Breast Cancer screening: Screening mammography (and breast ultrasound when necessary) are performed according to the schedule recommended by the American Cancer Society.
  • Bone density monitoring (bone densitometry): recommended for postmenopausal women for early detection of osteoporosis (bone thinning), thus allowing appropriate treatment, to reduce the risk of bone fracture. This is a new service at Eureka Medical Clinic.
  • Colo-rectal cancer screening (Colonoscopy for detection of cancer and polyps of the colon and rectum): which is now a standard recommendation for all women age 50 and above, is also offered routinely at our clinic.
  • Evaluation and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including tests for Chlamydia, Genital Herpes, Venereal warts, and vaginal yeast infections.
  • Infertility evaluation is done with pelvic ultrasound, hystero-salpingo-graphy (HSG) and semen analysis.
  • Dilatation and Curettage (D&C) of the uterus: usually indicated for retained products after a miscarriage, or for other causes of abnormal uterine bleeding, including an indication to rule out endometrial uterine cancer, is also performed by Dr. de Gale, at the Clinic.
